Bridges Between is a nonprofit organization that strives to educate, embolden, and empower women in rural Nepal by focusing on literacy, knowledge, and community development allowing women to reach their untapped potential to learn, grow, and develop a voice in their communities.
How We Do this?
Bridges Between partners and collaborates with rural communities and villages to develop educational facilities that implement the Bridges Between model of education by focusing on literacy, community, and developing a platform of knowledge. Through community collaboration, Bridges Between transforms existing structures into schools and works with locals and experts in education to develop an effective and engaging curriculum. Our teachers are chosen by our staff and incorporate technology and educational resources to the classroom to deliver high-quality education.
WHY DO WE DO THIS?
Bridges Between operates on the ideals that women should have the opportunity to learn, grow, and develop a voice in their communities. Through literacy and basic education, women are empowered and encouraged to participate in their children’s education, develop financial support for their families, and improve their lives.
IS THIS SUCCESSFUL? IS THIS NEEDED?
Since 2010, Bridges Between has successfully established five schools throughout the Solukhumbu region of Nepal. What started out as a response to a formal request for a school for the women of Chhulemu, led to the the first Bridges Between school being run out of a donated building. Since this successful model, Bridges Between has expanded its efforts across the region educating and empowering women and their families throughout rural Nepal.
WHAT DOES THE FUTURE LOOK LIKE FOR BRIDGES BETWEEN?
In looking forward, Bridges Between’s goal is to establish long-term sustainability for the schools. As of now, Bridges Between has been relying entirely on individual donations and is building on these charities with more funding through grants, long-term investors, and income generated by the schools.
